As of today, we have decided to make using Aviary's suite of editing tools FREE for everyone.
At Aviary, we believe that everyone in the world should have access to powerful creation tools. We therefore chose our company mission to be We make creation accessible to everyone. Our powerful set of tools helps fulfill this mission by enabling small businesses, students, artists & creators across different genres.
As a business, we did need to bring in revenues to cover our costs and development and to accomplish this we created a tiered pricing plan for certain types of uses. Although this was financially successful for us, the side effect of this was that our tools and their features (in their full capacity), were not truly accessible to everyone.
We have long felt that to better serve our core mission our complete feature set needed to be in the hands of everyone - not just those who could afford it. Fortunately, our recent round of funding (by Spark Capital, Bezos Expeditions & others) enables us to finally achieve this goal as we shift revenues opportunities to other exciting areas that don't limit individuals in any way. We are excited at the opportunity to stay true to our mission. Not many companies are so fortunate.
What does that mean exactly? Now everyone can:
* Save private files on Aviary.
* Add your own automatic watermark or go watermark-free.
* Access all tutorials.
Existing subscribers who signed up in the last 30 days can request refunds. [firstname.lastname@example.org] For all other past Blue plan members, we will cancel all future recurring payments directly. You will remain on indefinitely as our legacy Blue Supporters (recognized by the blue badges wherever they appear on Aviary's site) and you will continue to gain first access to all alpha products we release (rumor has it that a new one is floating around). And of course, we can't thank you enough for supporting Aviary's growth and development. That means the world to us.
Thanks for your continued support and we looking forward to seeing what you create.
What you waiting for? Go create something AWESOME !

Omaha, NE - A day care bus drops off a seven and three-year-old at 60th and Manderson Streets, but the kids can't find their way to their new foster home.
That's because the home is 28 blocks away.
Police reports show a neighbor called police after she spotted the girl and her younger brother standing outdoors for several minutes. A white van had dropped them off. She invited the children inside to keep them warm.
The older child told police "they were supposed to go to their new foster home but did not know where that was." According to the police report, the address was about 28 blocks away.
Police are investigating whether child neglect is involved.
Daycare provider De'Borah Willaims says it was a delivery mix up that had two foster children out in the cold until a stranger came along. Williams says she took a three-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl from her daycare and dropped the children off near 60th and Manderson Street. Williams thought it was their new foster home.
The kids waited outside in the cold for several minutes until Michelle Fuller came along and took them into her parents home. She then called police. "Well I just did what anyone would do," said Fuller
Williams realized her mistake when she got a call from the childrens' foster mom. She turned back around to get the kids. Police had already picked them up. The kids are now with their foster parents.
On Thursday, Williams returned to the place she made the mistake to thank Fuller for making sure the children were taken care of. "It was an honest mistake and I'm just glad you took them to safety and you are an angel to me," said Williams.

Great article on Color Theory, with many examples. .
via: Color Theory for Designers, Part 1: The Meaning of Color - Smashing Magazine :
("Green is a very down-to-earth color. It can represent new beginnings and growth. It also signifies renewal and abundance. Alternatively, green can also represent envy or jealousy, and a lack of experience.
Green has many of the same calming attributes that blue has, but it also incorporates some of the energy of yellow. In design, green can have a balancing and harmonizing effect, and is very stable. It’s appropriate for designs related to wealth, stability, renewal, and nature. Brighter greens are more energizing and vibrant, while olive greens are more representative of the natural world. Dark greens are the most stable and representative of affluence.")
